Fort McMurray holds a special place in my heart. It’s the town where I gave birth; the town where I became a mom.

In 2013, every six hours, a baby was born in Fort McMurray – that means a lot of moms live in Fort McMurray. A lot of amazing moms.

It takes a community to raise a child and there is no better community than the courageous and brave moms of Fort McMurray. Fort McMurray has spend years working hard to transform their community to a place where moms wanted to be. A community where you could be with your family after a long day in the Oil Sands.

It’s the moms that made Fort McMurray a great place to live and raise children. They are so strong, so smart and fiercely independent. The coolest moms I’ve ever met. Northern living isn’t easy – but thank you to the Fort McMurray Mommy Network it’s easier!

This Mother’s Day, Fort McMurray moms can hug their kids knowing everyone is safe. Their homes may be destroyed but their families are safe. That’s what matters. It’s the only thing that matters.

I’m proud to say I have a Fort McMurray baby. I was a Fort McMurray mom.

Thank you Fort McMurray for bringing moms together. You will be rebuilt – better than ever.
