Admittedly I wasn’t a big fan of the TV show ‘Mad Men‘ which is probably why The Old Fashioned wasn’t exactly on my radar lately. All winter I drink red wine and well I live in London, Ontario so I also love me some craft beer. Obviously.

I’ve got a new drink obsession thanks to The Rec Room – now open at CF Masonville Place. And by NEW.. I mean.. a twist on the ol classic.

It’s called a NEW FASHIONED… and it’s amazing!!

Sure sure you could go to The Rec Room for the fancy arcade games, VR and axe throwing… but there is also alcohol infused donuts and I strongly recommend their take on the Ol Fashioned…. the New Fashioned!

How to make an Ol Fashioned?

4.5 cl Bourbon or Rye whiskey
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 sugar cube
Few dashes plain water
Garnish – orange twist and cocktail cherry

Preparation

In an old-fashioned glass, add bitters to simple syrup and stir. Add about 1 ounce of whiskey and stir again. Add two cubes of cracked, but not crushed, ice and top off with the rest of the whiskey. Twist orange peel over the top and serve garnished with the peel and a maraschino cherry.

Best enjoyed before dinner
