The Michael Jackson estate is in a dispute with a Las Vegas tribute show, ‘MJ Live.’

The company is seeking permission to continue the show, which features an impersonator performing the late ‘Thriller’ hitmaker’s hits six nights a week at the Tropicana in Sin City and other US cities, and accusing the estate of trademark infringement. According to Billboard, the show says in the lawsuit that they have conducted over 3,600 events since 2012, but the estate only recently began sending venues cease-and-desist letters to cancel MJ Live’s forthcoming tour dates.

The Jackson Estate stated to Rolling Stone that they are not shutting down the show in Las Vegas but rather preventing it from expanding beyond Nevada due to consumer confusion and quality concerns. ‘MJ Live’ bosses responded that the cease-and-desist letters are “intentional and wrongful interference” in their business. The tribute show’s lawyers also claimed that the estate’s use of ‘MJ The Musical’ on Broadway infringed on their trademark rights to ‘MJ Live’ after over a decade.
