Reports have surfaced announcing the adaptation of the ’80s rock classic film, Purple Rain, starring Prince, into a stage musical.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the stage production of Purple Rain will showcase a musical score composed by Prince, who passed away in 2016. The book for the musical is penned by Pulitzer-Prize finalist Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, known for the current Broadway play Appropriate, with direction by Lileana Blain-Cruz, the talent behind the recent Broadway production of Skin of Our Teeth. The narrative is based on the original screenplay of Purple Rain, crafted by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn.

Originally launched in 1984, Purple Rain featured Prince as the Kid, a rising rock star hailing from Minnesota. While the film remains an enduring classic, its soundtrack is equally iconic, featuring some of Prince’s most significant hits such as “Let’s Go Crazy,” “When Doves Cry,” and the titular track.
