After 50 years on the road, Elton John has officially bid farewell to his touring career.

On July 8, the 76-year-old music icon completed his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. It has now become the first tour to ever gross over $900,000,000 in ticket sales.

The tour, which began on September 10, 2018 — but was halted in 2020 for nearly two-years due to the pandemic — has traveled across North America, Europe and Australia, concluding in Stockholm, Sweden.

Before his last song, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” he thanked his fans, band, and family during an emotional speech and said, “I’ve had the most wonderful career. Beyond belief. 52 years of pure joy of playing music. How lucky am I to play music?” He said that it was 52 years to the day since he had first played there.
