This is one that would make Judge Harry T. Stone from Night Court excited!

Bill Murray, one of the most beloved personalities of our time has found himself in some legal hot water.

Recently, he was served with the most amazing Cease & Desist letter from The Doobie Brothers because he didn’t get their permission to use “Listen To The Music” in the most recent ad for his line of golf polos “Zero Hucks Given”.

The letter starts off light-hearted while taking a shot at Bill Murray’s company name, referring to the song ‘Listen To The Music’:

“It’s a fine song. I know you agree because you keep using it in ads for your Zero Hucks Given golf shirts. However, given that you haven’t paid to use it, maybe you should change the company name to ‘Zero Bucks Given”.

They take a funny shot at Donald Trump before finishing:

“We’d almost be OK with it if the shirts weren’t so damn ugly …”

Now, Bill Murray could have easily, we’re sure, picked up the phone and reached out to any one of the Doobie Brothers (I mean he is after all one of the most connected people on this planet)

Bill decided to fight fire with fire and had his lawyer Alexander Yoffe (yes that Alexander Yoffe from Yoffe & Cooper LLP … we have to come clean, we didn’t know who he was until today) draft up the perfect response as only Bill Murray could provide

“We would also like to confirm that both our firm, and the good folks at William Murray Golf, are indeed fans of the Doobie Brothers’ music, which is why we appreciate your firm’s choice of “Takin’ In to the Streets”, rather than to the courts …”

But he did take exception to the Doobie Brothers calling his shirt collection “ugly” …

“Your negative comments about their fashionableness are especially disconcerting to all of us–especially considering 75 per cent of my wardrobe consists of William Murray polos, shorts and pants. Colour me biased, but the consensus on this side of the table is that Bill and the brothers have some of the most clever and creative lifestyle wear available.”

The letter wraps up by asking for each band member’s shirt size so he can “upgrade their wardrobe and hopefully win each of you over as new fans of the brand”.

We can’t wait to see how this ends?

In a time when the news is so full of uncertainties, bad news, and not enough JACK, thank you Bill Murray and the Doobie Brothers for handling this exactly in a way we all need right now.
