Seems to be the latest trend to turn every classic cult movie into a Broadway musical and it looks Empire Records is the latest victim. A musical adaptation of the ‘90s cult classic film Empire Records is in the works.

Rolling Stone reports that film’s original scribe Carol Heikkinen will adapt her script for the Broadway musical, which is targeting a 2020 premiere. The original film debuted in 1995 and followed a group of employees as they tried to save their record store from being bought by a large retail chain, while also grappling with an array of young adult dramas and prepared for a visit from the fictional washed-up pop star Rex Manning.

The ensemble cast featured the likes of Renée Zellweger, Liv Tyler, Ethan Embry, and Robin Tunney. It also boasted an impressive soundtrack with contributions from Gin Blossoms, AC/DC and The Cranberries, among others.
