The odds on favourite to win Best Picture at this Sunday’s Academy Awards is La La Land according to oddsmaker Danny Sheridan. The musical is a 1-6 favourite.

Sheridan has correctly predicted 16 of the top 18 Oscars in the past three years. He told PageSix: “If this were a horse race, it would be over before they got out of the gate!”

The oddsmaker says La La Land’s closest competitor is “Moonlight” at 5-1, “Impressive filmmaking on a tough subject, but somewhat bleak — the opposite of a feel-good movie.”

He also says the other big awards are easy picks. La La Land’s director Damien Chazelle is a 1-25 favourite to win Best Director. Also, ‘sure things’ are Emma Stone for Best Actress, Viola Davis for Best Supporting Actress and Mahershala Ali for Best Supporting Actor.

Sherdian says the only close race is for Best Actor. A bet on Casey Affleck to win for Manchester By The Sea pays even money. A close second is Denzel Washington, who is 6-5 to win for Fences.

“Denzel is very well-liked in Hollywood, but he’s already won an Oscar and Casey Affleck hasn’t,” Sheridan said.

Have you seen any of the Oscar nominated films/performances? What do you think?
