I will admit, I didn’t see this coming at all and I think that was the point the Sandy Hook Promise group was trying to make.

This PSA created by the Sandy Hook Promise- a non-profit group that works to protect children from gun violence tells the story of the lead character, ‘Evan’, a high school student who communicates with a secret admirer by writing notes to the mystery student on a table in the school library.

When he finally finds out who his admirer is, that’s when the PSA takes a MAJOR turn. I suggest you stop reading here, and watch the video, then continue to read.

The message that the Sandy Hook Promise group are trying to convey with this PSA is that before gun violence occurs, there are often warning signs that we tend to ignore.

Nicole Hockley, the managing director of Sandy Hook Promise (she lost her son Dylan in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shooting) said, “When you don’t know what to look for or can’t recognize what you are seeing, it can be easy to miss warning signs or dismiss them as unimportant. That can lead to tragic consequences, including someone hurting themselves or others.”

She added, “It is important for us to show youth and adults that they are not helpless in protecting their community from gun violence—these acts are preventable when you know the signs. Everyone has the power to intervene and get help. These actions can save lives.”

Whether you agree or disagree with the PSA, it is definitely powerful.
