Oktoberfest at Western Fair District kicks off this weekend but where does Oktoberfest come from? Germany Silly!

It is traditionally celebrated  in Munich, Germany, on the famous “Theresienwiese”, which is also called “Festwiese” by the locals. Big tents are erected during the summer. The construction starts in June and takes about three months to be completed, just in time for the opening ceremony of the Fest.  This video is basically what the German experience is like.

What to Wear

Honestly whatever is comfortable but if you can get your hands on the traditional tracht, it definitely makes the experience more legit.  As seen in the video, the boys wear lederhosen are shorts made of leather they may be either short or knee-length. The longer ones are generally called Bundhosen or Kniebundhosen. they generally have leather suspenders as well.  For the ladies the dirndl is quite fetching.  Dirndls are traditional dress worn in Austria, and Bavaria. A dirndl skirt generally describes a light circular cut dress, gathered at the waist, that falls below the knee.

Hope to see you at the Western Fair!!
