After three deaths in the USA over the last three years caused by IKEA furniture toppling on young children, IKEA has announced and international recall for MALM as well as other designs.   Last year after the hazard became apparent, IKEA issued a repair kit last year that would secure the dressers to the wall, but now says further action is needed.

IKEA Canada announced that along with Heath Canada it will only sell chests of drawers that meet the voluntary North American ASTM standard requirements on free-standing stability.

Customers who cannot secure their IKEA chests of drawers to the wall are being advised to bring them back to any IKEA location for a refund.

Chests and dressers manufactured between January 2002 and June 2016 will be fully refunded.
