LOOP's thoughts on the passing of Prince...

I have to admit it.  Prince has died.  He’s gone.  It’s just starting to sink in now and all I can do is just shake my head and wonder what happened.

Prince is more than just a musician I liked, he was a true artist who inspired me with his music, his fashion, his coolness and his words.  I always liked Prince but didn’t love him until 1987 when I bought the album Sign o’ the Times.   This album was a masterpiece – a collection of interesting sounds and beats and styles.   I was hooked and never looked back.

No matter what happened to me in life, Prince was my constant and got me through the highs and the lowest of lows.  People that know me know my love for Prince runs deep and are often amazed at my collection…my shrine to one of the greatest artists to ever walk this earth.  From 1978’s “For You”  to this years ‘Hit n Run: Phase II”, I was always at the record store on new release day so I could be the first to get his new album fresh off the shelves – all 39 of them.

His songs will out live all of us but a piece of me died today.   Few people can really impact me but Prince was definitely one of them – he was part of my personality and always will be.   It’s one thing to hear his albums but to see him LIVE was a religious experience and I am not exaggerating.

Now there’s no more new albums and no more concerts but there will always be Prince.  Maybe his VAULT will be opened and new music released, his old music remastered or videos re-released but no matter what he will keep surprising me…just like he always has.

To me Prince is untouchable, transcending the normal and wasn’t only outside the box, he was the architect. His Name is Prince…and He is Funky.
