Ontario provincial police have launched a distracted driving campaign, in time for March Break. The police will be on all OPP-patrolled roads all week, starting Friday and until March 20, ensuring that drivers keep their eyes on the road.

They will be focusing on those who use their cell phones behind the wheel and any other activity that takes their attention away from driving.

So far this year, 51 people have died in crashes on Ontario’s roads — 12 due to distracted driving.

Only five of the 12 killed so far were distracted drivers themselves. The other seven were other passengers or other drivers, or pedestrians who were hit.

OPP data shows distracted driving deaths are expected to surpass drunk driving fatalities in 2015 for the seventh-straight year.
